North Star Camp for Boys

Testimonials

Dear Leb,

This is a very overdue letter that I should have sent soon after Charlie returned home from his first 4 weeks at North Star. To say that his camping experience was life changing is truly an understatement.  We sent Charlie to camp as an insecure, self conscious 10 year old.  As July approached he did not want to go and I did not want him to go either. Watching him get on the bus made me truly sick to my stomach...I was a mess.  Once he left, I prayed that North Star would live up to its reputation. During Charlie's 4 weeks at camp we received positive letter after positive letter.

Then, we received a letter from his counselor Ben. The letter that Ben wrote to us put every worry, concern, etc to rest. The letter was beyond impressive. Ben, not only described Charlie at camp via his likes and dislikes, he conveyed that he knew Charlie as a person. He describe Charlie's personality so accurately and intimately that we knew Charlie was comfortable at camp and genuinely acting himself.

When Charlie returned home from camp he got off the bus and he and I hugged. I was crying as was Charlie. Naturally, I assumed that he missed me as much as I missed him....thus the tears. I was terribly mistaken. He looked me in the eyes and said, "I don't want to be home; I want to go back to camp."

As you know, those comments are why we spend the money to send our children to camp. Once Charlie got home he talked incessantly about camp. However, what was most interesting were his stories.  EVERY story he told involved you. Were you his counselor? Were you his private friend? You made such a positive impact on our son. Sometimes it seemed as though you were watching out for him 24/7.  We are so happy and appreciate that he felt such a close bond to you. You helped Charlie feel safe, have fun and were a huge part of his camp experience. We commend you.

Charlie was a mere first year camper, one of many, and you made him feel special. On another note, we would be remiss if we didn't commend Ben as well. Charlie adored Ben. Charlie still talks about Ben all the time. Ben was an amazing role model.

We want to thank you for Camp North Star for Boys. Charlie grew emotionally and socially. He camp back confident, proud and self-assured. We look forward to another positive 4 weeks this upcoming summer.

Fondly,

Melissa and David F.
